What have we done to encourage and produce affordable housing?

Enacted a Municipal Housing Facilities By-law (link to text of the By-law).

Regional Council now has a policy to give conditional grants equal to development charges for non-profit housing providers building affordable rental housing and for Habitat for Humanity homes.

York Region's multi-residential tax rate has been lowered to the single family residential tax rate.

Amended the Regional Official Plan to reflect the objectives of the Housing Supply Strategy.

Completed construction of Armitage Gardens.

Completed construction of Blue Willow Terrace in partnership with the City of Vaughan.

Developed 10 units of Transitional Housing and 16 units of Emergency Shelter for Youth in Sutton in partnership with the Salvation Army.

Completed construction of Tom Taylor Place in Newmarket, open for occupancy in fall 2008.

Developing a 15 unit (60 beds) family shelter in East Gwillimbury in partnership with Blue Doors.
- Developing a 84 unit seniors residence on the Vaughan Civic Centre campus in partnership with the City of Vaughan

Participating in the Federal/Provincial Affordable Housing Program (AHP) - Four community agencies have been selected to develop 270 affordable units under the Rental and Supportive Housing component.

Regional Council has provided capital and rent supplement funding for affordable housing projects under the Federal Provincial Affordable Housing Program.
