Just The Facts: About Your Community

York Region is the fastest growing Census Division in Ontario, growing by 22.4% between 2001 and 2006. As of December 31st, 2008, it is estimated that York Region's population was over 1,011,000. The Community and Health Services Department, with the support of the York Region Social Data Strategy Consortium and the Community Reference Group, has produced fact sheets to help you understand the make up of York Region's fast-growing population and how it is changing. What if York Region were a village of just 100 people?

York Region is becoming a global village rich in demographic diversity, perspective and influences. There are significant trends that are changing and enhancing York Region's communities. As of 2006, there are close to one million people living in York Region. This publication uses 2006 Census data and proportional representation to illustrate what York Region would look like if it were a village of 100 people. This is an updated version of a previous brochure based on 2001 Census data.
