The Council and Committee Secretariat is responsible for the administration and coordination of matters that are being considered by Regional Council and its Committees. This includes the preparation of Council and Committee Agendas, Minutes, Reports and correspondence. It also includes booking of Committee rooms and maintaining the Council and Committee calendar.

The Clerk's Office also maintains an index of all By-laws passed by Regional Council. A copy of a By-law may be obtained by contacting the Clerk's Office. Frequently requested By-laws are posted on this Web site at the following link: Frequently requested By-laws.
Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (MFIPPA)
The Regional Clerk reviews and processes all formal requests for Regional records under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. Records and Information Management
The Corporate Records and Information Management Program is responsible for developing and administering the Region's Records Management processes. This includes setting up standard classifications, records retention periods and storage systems for all Regional records, as well as ensuring compliance with the Region's Records Retention By-law. Archives
The Regional Archives holds the Municipal Council minutes and other government related documents for York Region. The Archives also includes selected records from the Home District Council (Minutes and By-laws from 1842 to 1849), the United Counties of York and Peel (Minutes from 1850 to 1865 with gaps), from York County (Minutes, Report and By-laws from 1855 to 1936 with gaps), the Toronto and York Roads Commission (Minutes and Records from 1911 to 1971), and Wardens and Commissioners Minutes from 1942 to 1970. The collection also includes an assortment of photographs and artifacts, and a reference library on York Region history.

New Archives Exhibit in the Great Hall
The Regional Archives is pleased to present Garfield Wright (1920 – 2009), an exhibit of photographs, artefacts, newspaper articles and other documentary material from Garfield Wright's years with the County Council and Region.Mr. Wright served for eight years as a Council member with the Region's predecessor, York County. His service consisted of two separate terms with the then Township of East Gwillimbury, as Deputy Reeve (1961-1962) and then as Reeve (1964-1969). He also served as the Warden of York County for 1968.
Garfield Wright was the first Chair, appointed by Order-in-Council of the Province of Ontario. He served as Regional Chair from 1970 to 1978. He was a strong presence throughout the early years of the Region. His hard work and commitment laid the foundations of the policies and structure that led to the many successes of the Regional Municipality of York.
