CAR SEAT CLINIC - 2004In a collision, car seats used correctly can reduce the risk of injury and death by 75%. Public Health Nurses in York Region Health Services inspected 1315 car seats between 1998-2003. The results were alarming. Only 8% of the car seats were used correctly. This means 1211 children were being transported in an unsafe seat or one that had been incorrectly installed. Many mistakes can be made while harnessing a child and/or installing the car seat in a vehicle. Previous car seat clinics held by York Region Health Services have found many car seats that do not have the Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards label, parts which are missing or damaged, or ones that have been in collisions. To address this issue, York Region Health Services will be holding a free car seat clinic to help parents and caregivers check to see if their car seats are being used correctly. Please call Health Connection 1-800-361-5653 to book an appointment.
The clinic is by appointment only. Parents are asked to call Health Connection at 1-800-361-5653. |
