Approximately 477 paramedics and support staff provide Emergency Medical Service 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to the Regional Municipality of York. Emergency Medical Services are provided using up to 33 ambulances, 9 Rapid Response Vehicles and 4 Special Response Vehicles.
Paramedics staff each vehicle can help the sick and injured in their homes or on the streets. Paramedics provide care for immediate life threatening conditions and safe, rapid transport to an appropriate facility for more medical care. York Region EMS offers both Primary and Advanced Care Paramedics services.
Paramedics are certified through the Central East Prehospital Care Program, to carry out certain delegated medical acts. Following specialized training, Advanced Care Paramedics can provide more clinical interventions and skills.
