Our Mission

The mission of the Health Services Department is to promote, protect and enhance the health and safety of the people of York Region.

 

About Us

The Health Services Department provides a wide range of health-related programs and services that span the life cycle of York Region residents. This includes direct health care service, health education and promotion, emergency and non-emergency medical response, family and children's health programs, immunization services, environmental health, health protection, community outreach and long-term care programs and services.

The Health Services Department is comprised of six branches:

Emergency Medical Services

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) provides both emergency and non-emergency medical response to York Region residents and visitors through the deployment of up to 24 ambulances, 6 Paramedic Response Vehicles and 2 Supervisor Response Vehicles, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Long Term Care and Seniors Services

Long Term Care and Seniors Services provides a broad range of programs and services that promote the health, well-being and independence of seniors and adults with disabilities, including long term care facility programs, day and outreach programs, and support services for seniors.

Public Health Services

Public Health Services keeps York Region residents healthy through health promotion, health protection and disease prevention. Public Health staff work collaboratively with schools, recreation facilities, health care institutions and all levels of government to build healthy, safe communities.

Health Information and Planning Services

Health Information and Planning Services offers policy and health planning and provides health resource and epidemiology assistance to all branches of the Health Services Department and to other Regional Departments. The Health Connection information line operates out of this branch.

Community Development

Community Development maintains community partnerships and offers promotional and media support to all branches of the department.

Administrative Services

Administrative Services maintains the financial records, reporting and budget preparation, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, and administrative support for the Health Services Department.
