Pandemic Influenza: A Planning Resource for Health Care Organizations has been developed to outline operational concepts, roles and responsibilities and procedures that would support health care organizations (e.g., acute care facilities, long-term care homes, community health services) to prepare for, respond to and recover from an influenza pandemic. This resource outlines inter-departmental actions and external partnerships to be coordinated for the protection of the life and health of the staff and patients/residents/clients of the health care organizations (HCO) in the event of an influenza pandemic.
The resource does not supersede current regulations, guidelines or directives as set out by regional, provincial and federal authorities. This resource is specific to pandemic influenza and not the management of routine respiratory illnesses. It is to be used as a tool to develop a comprehensive pandemic influenza plan specific to the HCO. The resource has been developed in accordance to standards set out in the Canadian Pandemic Influenza Plan (2004), Ontario Health Pandemic Influenza Plan (OHPIP, June 2005) and other government/peer reviewed documents. During a pandemic, directives may change as new information becomes available. Amendments should be made where relevant.
