Good plans have many advisors. That's especially true of Vision 2026. The hearts, minds and imaginations of Regional Council, the public and staff have all shaped this important exercise in designing the future of York Region.

This is a document to celebrate. Vision 2026 brought us together to look at where we want to be in a quarter of a century and how we plan to get there. It is a roadmap that helps us build on the enviable quality of life we now enjoy.

Vision 2026 is a shared vision that has a "grass roots" feel to it. That's because we asked a wide range of citizens from across the Region. We talked to people from smaller towns and those from urban areas. We asked children and older residents. We tapped into perspectives of our ethnic communities. A shared vision is a strong vision: in 25 years, York Region will continue to support and strengthen our strong, caring and safe communities.

Vision 2026 starts with the needs of people of this region. As our overarching strategic plan, it is a long-term response to those needs that will influence the way we do things daily. It will guide our performance as individuals. As part of our commitment to citizens, we will provide an annual report to show how we're doing in reaching the vision.

Through efforts of the public, Regional Council and staff, Vision 2026 will come to life and be implemented through policy initiatives, monitoring and ongoing achievements.

Sincerely,
Alan Wells
