Interactive Mapping Viewer
YorkExplorer has a collection of interactive map views. Each view is comprised of geographic data layers associated with a specific business process or a defined public information need.
Interactive Maps use the latest version of data available to the Region for public use. As well, this YorkExplorer viewer has greater navigation capabilities and allows the user to both view and query on information associated with the features found on the map (e.g. the area of a municipality, or the development status of vacant land).
The main difference between Published Maps and Interactive Maps is that where Published Maps are ready map files, some of which are updated periodically, Interactive Maps allow for access to live, or up-to-date data.
Our interactive viewer offers you zoom, pan, measure, mark-up and printing tools and much more.
Interactive Maps are server-side applications, with all significant processing taking place on the web server. This results in a very thin-client, low bandwidth application for the user, requiring minimal client computer capability and network speed. Supported browser clients include:
- Internet Explorer v4.0+
- Netscape v4.0+
- Mozilla v1.2+
It works best with Internet Explorer v5.0 or higher.
