This staff report informs Committee and Council of the final location and boundary of York Region's four Urban Growth Centres, released by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MEI) (formerly the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal, MPIR) on November 3, 2008. This is part of the Region's conformity exercise with the Provincial Places to Grow Plan.
This report advises Committee and Council of additional environmental evaluations undertaken to assess the impact of the preferred growth scenario in the watersheds of the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. Planning for Tomorrow – Refined York Region 2031 Forecast and Land Budget – September 2008 n
This report updates the population and employment forecasts and current land supply as part of York Region's 'Planning for Tomorrow' initiative. This report provides a Region-wide overview of the land budget implications and provides the basis for further discussion with local municipal staff, the province, public agencies, school boards, etc. More detailed information on the specific methodologies used in the calculation of the forecasts and land supply will be presented as an additional report to Committee in the coming months.

York Region Employment Land Area Analysis - April 2008 e
The Provincial Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe "Places to Grow" forecasts an additional 520,000 residents and 340,000 jobs in York Region by 2031. Managing this growth effectively requires matching the forecasted population growth with high quality employment.
Managing this growth effectively requires matching the forecasted population growth with high quality employment. Regional staff has undertaken a detailed analysis of the Region's employment land areas. The information in this analysis will enable the Region to make more informed decisions on employment uses and provides the context for Regional population and employment growth forecasts and land needs assessment. Moreover, it sets the framework for future analysis supporting a long term approach to planning for employment lands in York Region.
Regional Greenbelt Conformity Process - February 2008 f
The Provincial Greenbelt Plan was released in February 2005. Sections 7 and 9 of the Greenbelt Plan require municipal decisions under the Planning Act to conform to the Greenbelt Plan and municipal planning documents be amended to bring them into conformity with the Provincial Plan.
Five main elements of the Region's Greenbelt Conformity Work Plan are envisioned and a number of these are already ongoing as part of the Region's growth management work.
1. Background Reviews and Ongoing Work:
a. Agricultural/Rural Designation Refinement through a LEAR assessment.
b. Natural Heritage System Review and Update.
c. Wellhead Protection and Vulnerable Area Review and Update.
2. Official Plan Policy and Mapping Review.
3. Drafting of Revised Policies and Mapping.
4. Introduction of Proposed Greenbelt Conformity Amendment as part of the series of Growth Management Amendments.

Natural Heritage Paper Feedback and Strategic Directions - January - 2008 h
As a follow up to the release and consultation on the Natural Heritage Discussion Paper in May 2007, the Natural Heritage Discussion Paper Feedback and Strategic Directions report provides a summary of the comments on the paper, and provides a process for the next steps for natural heritage.
| In November 2007, Regional Council adopted the York Region Sustainability Strategy "Towards a Sustainable Region". The Strategy recommends the Region host a Climate Change Workshop to promote awareness of climate change, and to explore how the Region can adapt to Climate Change to ensure more resilient communities.
The Climate Change Workshop brought together a broad cross section of staff from departments across the Region, our partner area municipalities and Conservation Authorities, as well as our local utilities, emergency responders, and school board representatives to explore Climate Change issues, implications for York Region, and action we can take to better adapt. The workshop was held on April 25, 2008 at the Earth Rangers Centre.
