The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing's (MMAH) goal is an Ontario made up of safe and strong urban and rural communities with dynamic local economies, abundant greenspace and a quality of life. The Ministry promotes accountable local governments that are able to plan, manage and invest for the future and strengthens Ontario communities by promoting a housing market that serves the full range of housing needs, protects tenants, and encourages private sector building. The Ministry is responsible for the Planning Act and regulations and Policy Statements, the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act and Plan and the Greenbelt Act and Plan.

This Ministry supports Ontario's agri-food industry and rural communities and provides services and programs for the industry and consumers.

The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) is an independent, adjudicative tribunal that hears appeals and applications on land use disputes. When people can't resolve their differences on community planning issues, the OMB provides a public forum for resolving disagreements. Members are appointed by the Ontario government to mediate and/or resolve these disputes under a variety of legislation.

Statistics Canada produces statistics that help Canadians better understand their country—its population, resources, economy, society and culture. In Canada, providing statistics is a federal responsibility. As Canada's central statistical agency, Statistics Canada is legislated to serve this function for the whole of Canada and each of the provinces. Objective statistical information is vital to an open and democratic society. It provides a solid foundation for informed decisions by elected representatives, businesses, unions and non-profit organizations, as well as individual Canadians.
