Regional Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Guidelines

Regional Council adopted the Regional TOD Guidelines in September 2006 as a tool to
help implement transit-supportive development across York Region.

Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) is an approach to planning and design that strengthens the relationship between how we grow and our ability to provide efficient and effective transit services.
Transit-Oriented Development

The goal of these guidelines is to shape development in a way that responds to the needs of transit users and the transit service itself. Doing this effectively will generate ridership and enhance the quality and frequency of the transit system.

The Regional Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Guidelines will advance the implementation of York Region's planned urban structure of Regional Centres linked by Regional Corridors, served by public transit through the following key themes:

  • Pedestrians
  • Parking
  • Land Use

TOD Circle

  • Built Form
  • Connections
  • Implementation
