Road Design Guidelines

Guideline Purpose

These guidelines have been developed to assist York Region staff and design consultants who prepare construction road tender packages for the Regional Municipality of York.

Tender packages developed in accordance with these guidelines will identify potential conflicts prior to construction, require fewer redline corrections, reduce plan review and preparation time by Regional staff and design consultants.

Design Guideline Updates

These design guidelines receive continuous updates.  It is recommended that consultants visit this site on a monthly basis to ensure that they are using the latest version of these design guidelines. A tracking document has been established to assist you with your updates.

The login ID and password must be typed in as shown.  Do not cut and paste as some computer systems will show underling as part of the HTML formatting.  If underlining is shown, it must be removed.

1. Download and save the zipped file to your network server or computer desktop location

2. Extract the zipped file to an appropriate directory on your file server or computer desktop

3. Open the MS Word road design guideline document

As you scroll through the MS Word document, you will notice a number of hyperlinks (Blue Text). These hyperlinks will take you to various design tools and forms that are in the Appendices Section; they will also take you to many useful web-page resources.

The intent of all the tools and templates within the Appendices is for them to serve as a template document that can be modified to suit the needs of your project.

To use the hyperlinks, press and hold the Ctrl Key on your keyboard and double click the hyper linked text.  

Trouble Shooting

1.  Should you experience problems with the hyperlinks, copy the files directly to a CD and access the guidelines through the CD.

2.  Most FTP Site access problems can be resolved by having a current JAVA Web Browser installed on your computer.  Should you encounter a problem gaining access to the FTP Site, click HERE to report the problem.
