Directional Sign Programs

 
There are two programs available to promote businesses in York Region:
 
  • Tourism Directional Signage
  • Farm Fresh Directional Signage

Tourism Directional Signage

York Region's many attractions and visitor services are an important part of the Region's economy. Tourism directional signage direct visitors to attractions and increase the visibility of the attractions to all travellers.

Eligible Operations

 
These signs are for operations whose primary purpose is to provide tourism activities
or facilities to tourists. Eligible operation types are:
 

  • Accommodations
  • Cultural Centers
  • Farm Based Attractions
  • Fishing/Hunting Lodges
  • Golf Courses
  • Historic/Archaeological Sites
  • Interpretive Craft Galleries
  • Marinas
  • Boat Launches
  • Museums
  • Public Art Galleries
  • Sports Park/Leisure Centers
  • Water Parks
  • Zoos

  • Campground
  • Equestrian Facilities
  • Farm Markets
  • Flying Operations
  • Heritage Conservation District
  • Interpretive Centers
  • Major Sports Facilities
  • Boat Cruises
  • Boat Rentals/Charters
  • Performance Theatres
  • Ski Operations
  • Themed tourist Attractions/Parks
  • Wineries

Basic Eligibility Requirements

The tourism attraction must meet the basic eligibility requirements as well as additional requirements based on the type of tourist attraction it is. The Basic Eligibility Requirements are:

  • Serve Transient Customers
  • Comply with all applicable legislation
  • Accessible to a road open to traffic
  • Open to the public at least 12 consecutive weeks per year
  • Open at least five days/week during its open season, on advertised set days/times
  • Include a controlled gate, staffed reception and orientation point, or permanent interpretation panels or displays
  • Meet the specific criteria that applies to the tourism type

If your operation is eligible, you can apply for a maximum of six signs bearing your operation name, a generic symbol and direction information. The sign(s) will be owned, manufactured, installed and maintained by York Region.

Sign Types and Pricing

The price is a one-time charge for sign manufacturing and Installation. The contract term for these signs is 10 years. The sign types and prices are as follows:

Lakeside 8 Resort

Major Attraction Signs

Size:

4' x 8'

Roads Used On:

High Speeds
80kms/hr or more

Price:

$800.00

Maintenance Fee:

$180.00 payable every 2 years

Lakeside Resort

High Speed Trailblazer

Size:

2' x 8'

Roads Used On:

Road speed greater than 60km/hr

Price:

$500.00

Maintenance Fee:

$120.00 payable every 2 years

Major Attraction Signs

Size:

1' x 4'

Roads Used On:

Road speed equal to or less than 60 km/h

Price:

$200.00

Maintenance Fee:

$60.00 payable every 2 years


HST is applicable on all prices and maintenance fees. Please allow approximately four to six weeks from the time payment is received to the installation of the sign

Moving an existing sign

If an operation wishes to move an existing sign there will be a fee of $150.00+HST. Payment is required prior to the Region moving the sign.

To obtain signs on Ministry of Transportation Roads (i.e. Highway 48, 400, 404) please contact Canadian TODS Limited, Phone: (905) 851-1322, Fax: (905) 851-4724.

Farm Fresh Directional Signage

To promote locally grown farm fresh produce and related farm products throughout York Region by means of identifiable signage.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

The tourism attraction must meet the basic eligibility requirements as follows:

  • Business must be in York Region
  • 50% of the Product being offered must be owner produced
  • Must have sufficient parking on private property available for customers
  • Must be promoting their industry through publications, media and other promotional means
  • Must be a member in good standing of the York Farm Fresh Association
  • Business does not qualify for Tourism Signs

If your operation is eligible, you can apply for a maximum of four signs bearing your operation name. The sign(s) will be owned, manufactured, installed and maintained by York Region.

The price is a one time charge for sign manufacturing and installation. The contract term for these signs is 10 years. The sign prices are as follows:

Farm Fresh Trailblazer
Header Size: 16" x 4'
Fingerboard: 8" x 4'
Price: $300.00 per sign
Maintenance Fee: $60.00 payable every 2 years

HST is applicable on all prices and maintenance fees. Please allow approximately four to six weeks from the time payment is received to the installation of the sign
