The Joint Waste Diversion Strategy

On October 19, 2006, York Regional Council released the Joint Waste Diversion Strategy – a report developed in cooperation with our nine local municipalities. The Strategy explains how the Region and local municipalities will collectively increase their current waste diversion rate of 34 per cent to a goal of 65 per cent by 2010 and up to 75 per cent over the Strategy's 10-year planning window.  The Strategy details what current programs need to be optimized and what new programs need to be introduced to achieve our waste diversion goals.  Click here to view a copy of the Joint Waste Diversion Strategy. (This is a large file and may take a few minutes to download.)

The Joint Waste Diversion Strategy complements the current Durham/York Residual Waste Study as it defines the amount of waste that will be diverted from landfill in future years, as well as the amount of garbage or residual waste to be managed through the Residual Waste Study.
