What is involved in the paramedic recruitment process?
The paramedic recruitment process includes the following:
- Written Exam - A two hour multiple choice exam.
- Lifting Component - The lifting component will be conducted by an external company. More details will be given to candidates after the written exam.
- Practical Exam
- Interview
To be eligible to move on in the recruitment process, you must attend and meet all requirements for each and every stage.
What do I need to know if I am offered a position?
- Candidates will be booked for a Post Offer Employment Test (medical assessment)
- You will be required to attend a mandatory orientation session (three weeks) before you can start your position
If you do not attend the entire mandatory orientation session you will forfeit your employment opportunity.What are the eligibility requirements?
- Completion of a paramedicine program through a recognized college
- Successful completion of ITLS or proof of enrolment in the next available course is required prior to any offer of employment
What documentation is required if I am hired?
- College Diploma or letter from College confirming graduation
- ITLS Certification (or enrolment in the next available course)
- MOH-LTC Mandatory Training Record or letter from College confirming mandatory training was received
- AEMCA/EMCA Certificate or proof that you are registered to write this exam
- Current CPR certification (obtained after June 1, 2011)
- Copy of Class F driver's licence (enlarged 150 per cent front and back)
- MTO Driver's Abstract (obtained after April 22, 2012)
- Immunization and Communicable Diseases Documentation (form given at practical exam)
- Criminal Record Check (obtained after April 22, 2012)
All documentation must meet Ambulance Act Standards to work as a paramedic in Ontario.
