What are the steps in the paramedic recruitment process?

Step 1:
Written Exam
Step 2:
Practical Exam
Step 3:
Interview

Candidates must pass both the written and practical exams in order to be invited for an interview

  • Conditional offers of employment will be extended followed by a written offer
  • You will be required to provide contact information for 3 references (which includes: current or past supervisor, preceptor and professor).

What do I need to know if I am offered a position?

  • Candidates will be booked for a Post Offer Employment Test (medical assessment)
  • You will be required to attend a mandatory orientation session (3 weeks) before you can start your position
If you do not attend the full mandatory orientation session you will forfeit your employment opportunity.


What are the eligibility requirements?

  • Completion of a paramedicine program through a recognized college
  • Successful completion of ITLS or proof of enrolment in the next available course is required prior to any offer of employment

What documentation is required if I am hired?

  • College Diploma or letter from College confirming graduation
  • ITLS Certification (or enrolment in the next available course)
  • MOH-LTC Mandatory Training Record or letter from College confirming mandatory training was received
  • AEMCA/EMCA Certificate or proof that you are registered to write this exam
  • Current CPR certification (obtained after June 1, 2009)
  • Copy of Class F driver's licence (enlarged 150% front and back)
  • MOT Driver's Abstract (obtained after April 17, 2010)
  • Immunization & Communicable Diseases Documentation (form given at practical exam)
  • Criminal Record Check (obtained after April 17, 2010)
Documentation must meet Ambulance Act Standards to work as a paramedic in Ontario
