  Eligibility
  • To be eligible for a summer student position you MUST be currently enrolled in full-time studies at community college/university/high school and returning to full-time studies in the following school term (the only exceptions to this rule are: Public Health Inspection Students or final term co-ops)
  • You must be legally entitled to work in Canada as a student (a Social Insurance Number will be required at the time of hire)
  • If you are required to drive a vehicle (Regional or your own) as part of your position, you must submit a current Driver's Abstract free of any demerit points (zero)
  • A successful Performance Appraisal from 2012

Compensation

Summer student compensation is based on your year of study in a relevant program and the type of job (ie. Administrative or Professional/Technical).

Duration
The time-frame for summer student employment is May to August.

Application Process
  • Picture of York Region student employees.Returning students are not required to submit an online application
  • An information package will be e-mailed to all 2012 Summer Students in the final week of November 2012 
  • This package includes:
    • a letter outlining the "returning student" application process
    • a mandatory Questionnaire and Employment of Relatives Declaration Form
  • For your application to be considered, returning students must submit their application and all documents to H.R. Services by the deadline indicated in the package
  • Consideration for employment will be determined by both operational needs and a successful performance appraisal from 2012
  • Returning students will not be required to attend an interview unless you are being considered for a different position

Mandatory Orientation
  • Picture of York Region student employees.You will be required to complete an online orientation before you may start your position
  • You will be required to attend a mandatory payroll induction session during your first week of work

*Please Note:  As a returning student, you are NOT EXEMPT from either the online orientation or the payroll induction session*

Required Documentation if Offered a Position
  • Proof of enrolment in full-time study at community college or university in the fall of 2013
    • We will accept any of the following as proof of full-time enrolment:

Registrar’s letter confirming enrolment and academic eligibility for 2013/2014

OR

Letter or screen shot confirming your anticipated graduation date

OR

Letter or screen shot indicating you have more credits left to complete in your current degree

OR

Letter or screen shot showing registration for 2012/2013 at your current school

WITH

Letter or screen shot confirming your application to a 2013/2014 program at a future college/ university

 
  • Any other required documents as outlined in the offer letter (i.e. Driver's Abstract, Police Clearance)
  • A Social Insurance Number
  • Birth Certificate, Passport or Citizenship Card (required for proof of age)
  • A void cheque or a direct deposit form filled out by your bank, in order for your pay to be deposited directly into your bank account
