York Region releases census data implicationsNEWMARKET – York Regional Council released findings from the 2001 Census which outlines key trends in the areas of planning and economic development, human services, housing affordability, and housing and employment opportunities. "The results of the 2001 Census hold valuable information for York Region," said Bill Fisch Regional Chair and CEO. "The findings impact Vision 2026 in many ways. How we work with these trends will form the basis of what York Region will look like in the future." Census data provides information on the characteristics of the Region's population and its economy. The information can be used to ensure that York Region's services are addressing the needs of our increasing population. "The change in our growing population is evident through the 2001 Census," said Frank Scarpitti Markham Regional Councillor and Chair of the Planning and Economic Development Committee. "How we interpret these results can be used to better plan for the needs of York Region residents." The 2001 Census was conducted in May 2001 and is a collection of social and economic data that is updated every five years.
