Emergency exercise to be held May 29, 2002 in downtown Newmarket

NEWMARKET- On Wednesday, May 29, the Regional Municipality of York, together with the Town of Newmarket and GO Transit, will be conducting a mock exercise involving a tanker truck and a simulated GO Transit train collision at the Timothy Street intersection in downtown Newmarket (link here for map).

A site perimeter will be sectioned off at the Timothy Street intersection and traffic will be re-routed around Timothy Street during the exercise; however, the flow of traffic will not be interrupted on Main Street.

The purpose of the exercise, which is expected to run from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., is to test York Region, the Town of Newmarket and GO Transit's emergency preparedness programs. For more information, visit the Emergency Measures or the Emergency Preparedness Guide at www.york.region.on.ca or www.town.newmarket.on.ca

Please see attached backgrounder and fact sheet for Exercise Timothy.
