York Regional Council approves 2002 Arts and Culture Tourism Grants Program

 

NEWMARKET – York Regional Council today approved a $25,000 allocation to continue the Arts and Culture Tourism Grants Program for 2002. The program provides a one-time grant of up to $5,000 to eligible arts and cultural groups in York Region.

"I'm pleased York Region will be able to continue to contribute to the success of local community arts, culture and tourism initiatives," said Regional Chair Bill Fisch. "These initiatives play an important role in the cultural landscape and economy of the Region."

The Regional Municipality of York established the Arts and Culture Tourism Grant Program in 2001 and awarded funding towards a theatrical and historical production in East Gwillimbury, an artisans' festival in Newmarket and a weekend tour adventure in King.

A subcommittee of the Region's Planning and Economic Development Committee will be appointed to review applications and make recommendations to Regional Council for the 2002 grants.
