Garbage collection throughout York Region unaffected by Toronto CUPE strike

NEWMARKET – Garbage and recycling collection throughout the Regional Municipality of York will not be interrupted by a strike of members of Local 416 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

At 12:00 noon today CUPE Local 416 went on strike against its employer, the City of Toronto, which operates the Keele Valley Landfill Site in the City of Vaughan.

The public drop-off facility and household hazardous waste depot at Keele Valley will be closed for the duration of the strike. The hazardous waste depots in East Gwillimbury and Markham and the Georgina Transfer Station will not be affected.
