Regional Council is considering changing its composition and size to add a representative of the City of Vaughan to Regional Council.
Adding an additional member from the City of Vaughan would mean that it would be represented by 4 members and its representatives would comprise 20% of the 20 local representatives on Regional Council. Currently the City of Vaughan has 3 representatives, or 15.8% of the local representation on Regional Council. Its population is 210,000 or 25.8% of the Region's total population of 812,500 (June 2002). Regional Council's composition and size were last altered in 1988 when the Region's population was about 435,000.
The steps in this process are set out in the Municipal Act and include seeking input from the public. Council invites your input through one or more of the following avenues:
- Attend at the Public Meeting scheduled for Thursday, December 19, 2002, at the Regional Administrative Centre, 17250 Yonge Street, Newmarket, commencing at 9:30 a.m. in the Council Chamber.
