York Rapid Transit Plan Public Consultation on the Markham North-South Link Environment Assessment

NEWMARKET – As part of the York Rapid Transit Plan (YRTP) to create a network of rapid transit across the Regional Municipality of York, studies are underway in two major transit corridors and two connecting links to the City of Toronto.

Residents and business owners are invited and encouraged to attend an upcoming Public Consultation Centre to express views on the needs, problems, issues and potential solutions regarding the Markham North-South Link Environmental Assessment.

WHEN: Friday, October 25, 2002

2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

WHERE: Markville Mall, Lower Level

Town of Markham

5000 Highway 7 East (Highway 7 and McCowan Road)

BACKGROUND:

  • The Markham North-South Link Environmental Assessment is examining a corridor extending from the Markham Centre, between Kennedy and Warden Avenues, south of Highway 7, to the new Sheppard Subway in the City of Toronto.
  • Recent growth in Markham, combined with planned future growth in Markham Centre, has made this corridor an important priority. Past studies have identified the benefit of developing rapid transit in this corridor.
  • Future studies will include the Highway 7 Corridor, the Yonge Street Corridor and the Vaughan North-South Link.

For additional information on this study, visit the York Rapid Transit Plan Web site, located on the York Region home page at www.region.york.on.ca/yrtp
