SARS Community Information Session to be held in Vaughan


Newmarket – York Region Health Services offers an update to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) community information session.

When: Monday, April 28th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Maple Creek Public School,
210 Hawker Road
(South of Major Mackenzie, east of Jane Street), Maple (City of Vaughan)

Update to Panel:

  • Welcome remarks by City of Vaughan Mayor Michael Di Biase
  • Regional Councillor Joyce Frustaglio, Chair of the York Region Health and Emergency Medical Services Committee
  • Dr. Hanif Kassam, Acting Commissioner of York Region Health Services

and Medical Officer of Health

  • Health Services staff, including representatives from the:
  • Infectious Diseases Control Division

(to offer details on the process of contact tracing)

  • Health Protection Division

(to answer questions on infection control measures)

A reminder that this session is not for those who have been exposed to or have contracted SARS. There are five clinics dedicated to assessing and screening for SARS. In York Region, the SARS Assessment Clinic is located at 6824 Hwy. 7 (just east of Ninth Line) in Markham, and is open seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. For the location of other Clinics or questions about SARS, call York Region Health Services’ Health Connection at 1-800-361-5653 or Telehealth Ontario at 1-866-797-0000.
