On August 24^th, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a warning to consumers not to consume beef or any beef products originating from Aylmer Meat Packers Inc., Aylmer, Ontario. The CFIA has indicated that beef products from Aylmer Meat Packers were processed without proper inspections. The Ontario Provincial Police has launched an investigation.

On August 25^th and 26^th, York Region Public Health inspectors went to four stores in York Region that were identified by CFIA as suppliers of Aylmer Meats. Aylmer beef products were found at two of these stores.   The CFIA detained these products so that they cannot be consumed by the public.

 

York Region Health Services continues to work co-operatively with the CFIA and the Province of Ontario, and will provide updates as new information becomes available.

 

How to identify affected products

 

If the meat products you have are labeled with the Aylmer Meat Packers Inc. name, do not eat the meat. If the product is not labeled with the Aylmer Meat Packers Inc. name, or you are not sure of the sources of the products you have, please check with the retailer where you bought the products.  A list of retailers that may be affected is noted on the CFIA's web site (see link below), which is being updated regularly.

 

The CFIA is also warning consumers not to consume the following meat products because these were manufactured with beef originating from Aylmer Meat Packers Inc:

All packages of the following Halal Meat Basterma King frozen products purchased after March 21, 2003 are affected by this alert:

Kebbe	Odorless (Basterma)

 

 

If you suspect that you have eaten meat products from Aylmer Meat Packers Inc., and experience the common symptoms of food poisoning and food-borne illness, seek medical attention right away either with your physician or go to your local emergency room.

 

Symptoms:

 

·         Symptoms begin anywhere from two hours up to five days after eating contaminated products

·         Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and chills
