York Region asks residents and businesses to continue water conservation efforts
NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York has advised its area municipalities that there is no longer an immediate danger of water shortages due to power disruption. However, the Region continues to stress water conservation efforts.
With the current stretch of hot, dry weather expected to continue, residents and businesses are strongly encouraged to limit any unnecessary outdoor water use for the remainder of August, and through the Labour Day weekend when water usage is typically high.
On August 19th, York Region issued a water advisory during the provincial state of emergency as a precautionary measure to ensure that sufficient water was on hand in the event of a power outage.
"York Region residents and businesses responded tremendously to our request for water conservation during the energy crisis, and I wish to thank them for their co-operation and patience," said York Region Chair and CEO Bill Fisch. "However, each of us should remain vigilant over the next week."
