York Region Rapid Transit Plan Public Consultation on the Highway 7 Corridor Environment Assessment

NEWMARKET – As part of the York Region Rapid Transit Plan (YRTP) to create a network of rapid transit across the Regional Municipality of York, studies are underway in two major transit corridors and two connecting links to the City of Toronto.

Residents and business owners are invited and encouraged to attend one of three upcoming Public Consultation Centres to comment on the development of alternative alignments and facility designs in the Highway 7 Corridor.

BACKGROUND:

  • York Region is collaborating with the City of Toronto, which is about to commence a Class EA for rapid transit between the Downsview Station and York University.
  • The Highway 7 Corridor EA is examining rapid transit services between the York/Peel and York/Durham boundaries.
  • Other studies include the Yonge Street Corridor, the Markham North-South Link and the Vaughan North-South Link
