York Region employees raise $94,000 in successful 2004 United Way Campaign

NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York successfully raised $94,000 in its 2004 United Way of York Region fundraising campaign.  The amount eclipsed the 2004 goal by $9,000.

 

“The need for community assistance is still with us,” said Regional Chair and CEO Bill Fisch.  “York Region is a community that recognizes the importance of giving to others, and as long as there is a need, we will work with the United Way of York Region to assist those who are less fortunate.”

 

Regional employees joined members of the York Regional Police Services and participated in a number of events throughout the year, including a charity softball tournament, a silent auction, a luncheon barbeque and an annual craft sale.

 

“I am extremely pleased with the effort of Regional employees and York Regional Police in raising funds for the United Way,” said York Region Chief Administrative Officer Michael Garrett.  “The United Way of York Region makes a difference in the lives of so many people, and we are honoured to play a part in their annual fundraising campaign.”

 

During the past four years, the Region has raised more than $290,000 toward the United Way of York Region.

 

The United Way of York Region is the largest source of non-profit funding for social and community health services.  It supports more than 120 vital programs in 40 community agencies.
