February 24, 2004, Region receives plaque for Bayview Avenue project

NEWMARKET � York Regional Council and members of the Region's Transportation and Works department received a plaque from McCormick Rankin Corporation last week to commemorate an excellence in engineering award the company received for the work it did on the Bayview Avenue extension project.

"Bayview Avenue was a challenging project due to a number of environmental considerations," said Regional Chair and CEO Bill Fisch. "It's great that all the extra attention and detail that went into the design and construction of this project is being recognized."

The award was issued to McCormick Rankin by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for Excellence in Engineering. It was one of 11 selected from a field of 50 projects, and the only one selected that did the design and construction work in Ontario.

"We're very pleased with the overall outcome of the Bayview Avenue project," said Kees Schipper, York Region Commissioner of Transportation and Works. "Protecting the environment of the Jefferson Forest was of paramount importance, and the final design work provided by McCormick Rankin accommodated this very well."

ACEC chooses award recipients on an annual basis. The work by McCormick Rankin was recognized for its recognition of the environment and community focus.
