Families learn how to keep children safe in their communityNEWMARKET – York Region Health Services in collaboration with the Keeping YorKids Safe Partners Committee hosts a Family Safety Day event at the new Community Safety Village of York Region. The aim of this interactive day is to raise awareness of unintentional childhood injuries by highlighting community resources. Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death and disability for children ages 0-6 years. WHAT: Family Safety Day is a free, fun-filled event for families of young children living
in York Region. The day will consist of interactive displays, safety demonstrations, entertainment and a BBQ. The Community Safety Village of York Region is an interactive miniature village
where children can learn and experience valuable life saving lessons about staying safe in their communities. WHEN: Saturday April 30, 2005

Community Safety Village of York Region 3291 Stouffville Side Road, Whitchurch-Stouffville PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE: • Tour of emergency and community vehicles - Fire Truck, Ambulance, York Region Transit Bus, Canadian Red Cross Response Vehicle etc. 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. • Interactive safety demonstrations 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. • Children's entertainment/crafts – Mascots (Clifford the Big Red Dog, Elmer the Safety Elephant, Red.E.Fox, clown, face painting) 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. • Interactive safety exhibits – smoke apartment tours every ½ hour 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. WHO: York Region Health Services is committed to the prevention of childhood
injuries. Keeping YorKids Safe is an injury-prevention program in York Region for parents/caregivers and children that focuses on childhood injuries such as choking, suffocation, scalds, burns, falls, poisoning and drowning. The Keeping YorKids Safe Partners Committee consists of 25 community organizations, businesses and non-profit agencies.
