York Region lifts Stage 1 Outdoor Water Use Advisory Residents thanked for their conservation efforts

NEWMARKET – Following periods of cooler weather and increased rainfall, the Regional Municipality of York today lifted its Stage 1 Outdoor Water Use Advisory.  Residents are encouraged to follow local watering by-laws for the remainder of the season.

The Stage 1 Outdoor Water Use Advisory requested all persons refrain from using municipal water from a hose, pipe, sprinkler or permanent irrigation system for the purposes of watering lawns or gardens, washing vehicles, sidewalks or driveways, and filling or topping up swimming pools.

The water advisory had been in effect since June 8th, when unseasonably hot and dry weather prompted a call for voluntary water restrictions.  Despite record heat throughout July and parts of August however, conservation efforts by residents greatly assisted in preventing the need for widespread watering bans.

The Region would like to thank residents for all their cooperation and patience over the last few months during this summer's drought-like weather conditions.
