Signal problems come amidst Province's five per cent electricity rollback
NEWMARKET – York Region is asking all motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to exercise caution during today's drive home if they encounter flashing traffic signals.
When encountering flashing red and amber lights, drivers are required by law to treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has advised a power reduction by 5% across the Province. This power reduction may cause intermittent flashing of traffic signals at York Region intersections.
The energy rollback will remain in effect until approximately 7 p.m. tonight, and will affect traffic signals in the City of Vaughan, the Town of Richmond Hill and parts of the Town of Markham.
