York Region reminds residents to continue conserving water for outdoor use

Water ban still in effect for Kleinburg

NEWMARKET – Despite slightly cooler temperatures and periods of rain this week, York Region reminds residents to please continue their efforts to conserve water by limiting outdoor water use during the ongoing Stage 1 Outdoor Water Use Advisory.

With this season set to be one of the hottest summers on record, continued vigilance on water consumption is essential as we enter the Simcoe Day (Civic) long weekend.

The Stage 1 Outdoor Water Use Advisory requests all persons refrain from using municipal water from a hose, pipe, sprinkler or permanent irrigation system for the purposes of watering lawns or gardens, washing vehicles, sidewalks or driveways, and filling or topping up swimming pools.

A Stage 2 Water Ban continues to be in effect for the community of Kleinburg.

York Region issues a Stage 2 Outdoor Water Use Ban if reservoir levels cannot be adequately maintained, while Regional pumping systems are in continuous operation to meet water demand.  An adequate level of water in reservoirs is necessary to manage emergencies.

York Region would like to thank residents for their ongoing support and conservation efforts to date.

York Region will reassess the outdoor watering restrictions next week.

For up-to-date information on the status of water restrictions, please visit the Regional Municipality of York Web site at www.york.ca
