York Region launches Small Bus StrategyNEWMARKET – Members of York Regional Council will launch the new York Region Transit (YRT) Small Bus Strategy in Newmarket today, showcasing one of the new small (under 30 feet) buses. The new buses will operate as part of a one-year pilot project on the Newmarket Community Bus route 520/521.

• The Small Bus Strategy will determine the feasibility of using smaller buses (less than 30 feet) on Regional roads. If successful the Newmarket pilot may allow for general use of small buses across YRT’s transit operations.
• The pilot project in Newmarket will last one year, with an assessment after six months. • The Route 520/521 Newmarket Community Bus will offer midday and evening service Monday to Friday, and all day weekend service using small, low-floor, accessible buses. - 30 -
