York Region to recognize National Access Awareness Week May 29 to June 4

 
NEWMARKET – York Region will recognize National Access Awareness Week (May 29 to June 4, 2005) with information displays at its offices in Newmarket and Richmond Hill.
 
Hand out materials include:
• York Region’s second annual accessibility plan, Moving Forward;
• Here to Serve, a newsletter dedicated to improving customer service to persons with disabilities;
• tips on how to effectively and respectfully serve people with disabilities; and
• other useful resources.
 
WHEN: May 29 to June 4, 2005

• Great Hall, York Region Administrative Centre, 17250 Yonge Street, Newmarket
• Main Reception, York Region South Services Centre, 50 High Tech Road, Richmond Hill
 
BACKGROUND:
 
Established in 1988 in response to a request from Rick Hansen following his Man in Motion World Tour, National Access Awareness Week recognizes the importance for all individuals, businesses and government partners to work together to promote an inclusive and barrier-free community.
 
In addition to the information displays, the Region will hold a staff workshop about persons with disabilities in the workplace on May 31st and an inclusion and accessibility learning session on June 15th.
