York Region seeks public input at workshops on alternatives to landfilling in Michigan and OntarioThe Region is conducting these workshops as part of a joint Durham/York Residual Waste Study. Feedback obtained from these workshops will be used to develop the Environmental Assessment (EA) Terms of Reference for this Study. York Region currently exports the majority of its post-diversion waste to landfill sites in The participation of York Region residents is key to the success of this EA Study. We therefore encourage York Region residents to attend the workshops and share their perspectives on what should be included in this joint EA Study. Workshop Series 3 is a follow-up to the two previous sets of workshops in which residents participated in discussions that focused on how to choose a preferred waste disposal technology(ies) to manage post-diversion residual wastes and how to identify a preferred site for a long-term residual waste management facility. This Workshop will focus on how the public and stakeholders should be consulted during the EA study including: Best ways of informing the public about the study Best ways to gather feedback from the public on the study Participants in the study – who should participate? Methods for enhancing public participation in the study Interested residents are encouraged to register for these Public Workshops. Public Workshop Series 3 details are as follows:
