York Region residents reminded to use Kraft paper bags or reusable containers for yard waste

NEWMARKET – With spring yard waste collection taking place in area municipalities, the Regional Municipality of York would like to remind residents that yard waste is not accepted in plastic bags at Regionally owned and/or contracted facilities.  Yard waste will be accepted in Kraft paper bags or reusable containers with labelled yellow yard waste stickers.

Yard waste stickers are available at no charge by calling York Region’s toll-free yard waste number at 1-877-464-9675, Extension 5746.

To promote the switch to Kraft paper bags, York Region is partnering for a second consecutive year with Canadian Tire, Home Depot and Home Hardware to offer residents a 10 per-cent discount off the regular retail price of Kraft paper bags during Earth Week – April 22 to 28.  Coupons for the 10 per-cent discount will be available in local newspapers (the York Region Newspaper Group) during the week of April 17th.

Residents wishing to drop off their yard waste may do so free-of-charge this summer at:

  • Miller Waste Systems in the Town of Richmond Hill

1351 Bloomington Road

7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday
