Passenger boardings for YRT and Viva increase 21 per cent in November 2005

NEWMARKET – Total passenger boardings for York Region Transit (YRT) and Viva Rapid Transit totalled over 1.8 million in November 2005, pushing the total to over 5.2 million since the launch of Viva, the Region's new system, last September.

 

The November boardings mark a 21.4 per cent increase over YRT passenger boardings recorded in November 2004.

 

Overall ridership numbers by the end of November indicate that transit ridership in York Region is set to surpass 15 million riders for the first time since YRT amalgamated local transit systems in 2001. 

 

YRT has posted 10 per cent or greater ridership increases every year of its operation and is anticipating further growth with the addition of Viva riders.
