YRT and Viva announce winners of 6 Years and 60 Million Riders contest at awards presentationNEWMARKET – York Region Transit (YRT) and Viva Rapid Transit will be announcing the winners of the
6 Years and 60 Million Riders contest at an awards presentation at the Richmond Hill Centre terminal on Monday, June 12th. The event – hosted by A-Channel anchor Lance Chilton – will recognize contest winners in the categories of Youth, Teen, Adult and Mobility Plus riders.

Margaret Black, King Township Mayor and York Region Transit Committee Chair Don Gordon, General Manager of YRT Lance Chilton, A-Channel Anchor, Event MC Award recipients Background: • Winners for the 6 Years and 60 Million Riders contest were selected based on written entries, detailing why YRT and/or Viva was important to them and their community, or share positive experiences they have encountered as a rider. Finalists were chosen based on impact and originality from 230 submissions.
• YRT was amalgamated in 2001 and has seen ridership growth of 10 per cent each year of operation.
• YRT and Viva carry an average of 55,000 riders each weekday on 450 vehicles (including Mobility plus and TTC contracted buses).
