York Region to host free open houses in celebration of National Public Works Week


Sites to feature Take a Scoop out of Hunger snow plow food donation challenge
 
NEWMARKET – In celebration of National Public Works Week – May 21st to 27th – York Region's Transportation and Works department is hosting three free open houses for the public to learn about the various jobs and duties performed by the Region's public works professionals. 
 
Themes of the open houses include public transit, waste management, roads transportation and water and wastewater services.
 

When:  Saturday, May 27th – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
Where: Open House #1: YRT/Viva Rapid Transit depot
18106 Yonge Street, Newmarket (south of Green Lane)

Each site will be collecting non-perishable foods in a snow plow as part of the Take a Scoop out of Hunger donation for a local food bank and will feature a number of transportation and works vehicles, tours, activities, light refreshments and giveaways.
*Please note that for safety reasons, strollers will not be permitted, children must be accompanied by an adult and no open-toed shoes will be permitted on the tour.
