York Region Transit/GO Transit form fare integration partnership

 

Route 69 – Sutton GO Bus service will accept YRT fares beginning September 1^st

 

NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York will be offering a new York Region Transit (YRT)/GO Transit Fare Integration Service starting Saturday, September 1^st.  In a local fare agreement with GO Transit, York Region Transit riders can board the Route 69 – Sutton GO Bus with a YRT fare, allowing easy and affordable connections between the Towns of Georgina and Newmarket.

 

 “It’s important that transit agencies work together to provide seamless travel options,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch.  “The YRT/GO Fare Integration Service is a perfect example of how to bring two transit services together for the benefit of the customer.” 

 

Operated by GO Transit, this service will operate Monday to Sunday between the Newmarket GO Bus Terminal and as far north/east the York/Durham boundary along Lakeridge Road (please see attached map).  Customers can board Route 69 at any of the combined GO/YRT marked stops along the route with a one-zone or two-zone YRT monthly pass or ticket.

 

“Georgina residents need affordable, available transit service,” said Town of Georgina Mayor Robert Grossi.  “This new route provides vital local service seven days a week for residents that live and work in Georgina.  I'm happy to see our local needs being met, while also presenting a new way to connect to the Town of Newmarket, where many of our residents shop and work."

 

Customers crossing the zone boundary between Ravenshoe Road and Holborn Road in the Town of Keswick will be required to pay a two-zone fare.  Customers continuing south from Newmarket GO Bus Terminal must purchase an additional zone supplement for trips crossing the southern YRT zone boundary south of King Road.  YRT cash fares will not be accepted; however, customers with cash may pay the GO Transit fare.

York Region operates regular YRT service and Viva Rapid Transit, as well as door-to-door Mobility Plus service for individuals with disabilities.  YRT offers approximately 100 routes throughout the nine municipalities of York Region.
