York Region introduces York Region Transit (YRT) service restructuring in Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville

 

Local seniors’ residence event kicks off restructuring, effective September 4^th

 

NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York introduced restructured York Region Transit (YRT) services in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville today during an event at Parkview Village Seniors’ Residence.  The service restructuring will separate the existing Route 9/9A-Stouffville into four new

simplified routes:  Route 9-9^th Line, Route 15-Stouffville Local, Route 215-Stouffville GO Shuttle and Route 415-Stouffville High School Special.

 

“York Region is committed to providing top quality transit services,” said York Region Chairman and CEO Bill Fisch.  “This restructuring is an example of the continuous improvement of YRT services happening throughout York Region.”

 

The September 4^th service restructuring will provide a more direct connection to Markham Stouffville Hospital, Stouffville GO Station and Stouffville High School among other key local destinations.  Routing and schedules will be simplified for easier understanding.

 

“Whitchurch-Stouffville is a growing community with growing transit needs,” said Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville Mayor Wayne Emmerson.  “I’m very pleased to see our YRT services improving and recognizing the diverse travel needs of our residents.”

 

Whitchurch-Stouffville’s first YRT route, Route 9/9A-Stouffville Local, was introduced in September 2004.

 

“These YRT improvements will make it easier for residents to get around in Stouffville and connect to other municipalities,” said Town of Markham Regional Councillor Jim Jones Chair of the Region’s Transit Committee.  “Easier to understand service can only help to get more residents out of their cars and onto transit.”

 

York Region operates conventional YRT service and Viva Rapid Transit, as well as door-to-door Mobility Plus service for individuals with disabilities.  YRT/Viva offers approximately 100 routes throughout the nine municipalities of York Region.
