Yonge Street lane closure to affect evening rush hour

Damaged hydro pole at Yonge and Eagle streets in Town of Newmarket to cause delays

Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane throughout the evening rush hour near the intersection of Yonge Street and Eagle Street in the Town of Newmarket as hydro crews works to repair a damaged hydro pole.

Staff from York Region's Transportation and Works department will keep two northbound lanes on Yonge Street open to help accommodate the majority of commuters.

Mobile traffic signs have been placed at the intersections of Yonge Street and Davis Drive and Yonge Street and Eagle Street to help re-route motorists around the lane closure. Southbound drivers are encouraged to use Bathurst Street as an alternative.

Hydro staff have suggested repairs will take approximately six hours, leaving the southbound lane closed until approximately 8:30 p.m.
