Viva Phase 2 Open House rescheduled for March 28th

 

NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York is hosting three public open houses as it embarks on the design and engineering for Viva Phase 2, the second phase of York Region’s three-phase rapid transit plan. 

 

The third of these open houses, scheduled for March 1^st and cancelled due to weather, has been rescheduled for March 28^th at the Heintzman House in the Town of Markham.

 

Viva Phase 2 involves the construction of approximately 67 kilometres of dedicated transit-only lanes called “Rapidways”.  These Rapidways will be located in the centre of the road and are reserved for public transit allowing Viva vehicles to cut through congested traffic and significantly reduce travel times for riders.

 

The Viva Phase 2 open houses are open to members of the public and will focus on the planning and construction of the first segment of Viva Phase 2 – Yonge Street from Steeles Avenue to the Richmond Hill Centre Terminal.  Viva personnel will update the public on the approved Environmental Assessment and review work plans for the coming months.

 

With federal and provincial funding now secured, construction of the first segment could begin by Spring 2008.
