Join York Region for a Reuse/Dropoff event this weekend

 
York Region, Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity partner up to honour Waste Reduction Week 

 

NEWMARKET – In recognition of Waste Reduction Week October 15th to 21st, The Regional Municipality of York, in partnership with Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity, is hosting a Reuse/Dropoff event on Saturday, October 20th. 

 

Between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., residents are invited to visit York Region’s Waste Management Centre at 100 Garfield Wright Boulevard in the Town of East Gwillimbury to drop off recyclable or reusable items.  At the event, residents can also drop off shredded paper in clear plastic bags.

 

Good quality reusable items accepted by Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity include:

 

·         Clothing and accessories                                   

·         Books, music, DVDs, videos

·         Games, toys, sports equipment, tools

·         Fabrics, textiles, housewares

·         Light and plumbing fixtures

·         Kitchen and bath cabinets

·         Unused full bundles of shingles

·         Unopened paint cans

·         Hardware

 

Specially priced composters will be available at the event for $10 each (cash only).  Tours of the Waste Management Centre where recyclable material is processed will also be available approximately every 30 minutes. 

 

To drop off Household Hazardous Waste (HHW), residents can visit the HHW depot at 225 Garfield Wright Boulevard in the Town of East Gwillimbury.  It will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. accepting items such as household cleaners, batteries, leftover paint, prescriptions, pesticides and other HHWs.

 

Waste Reduction Week is celebrated annually by York Region and many other Region’s across Canada to encourage residents to take an active role in reducing waste.  Further information is available at www.wrwcanada.com
