Public consultation event to be held October 23rd to discuss Durham/York Waste Study recommended preferred siteThe EA consultants GENIVAR and Jacques Whitford have recommended a preferred site in the The public consultation session will allow residents an opportunity to learn more about the Durham/York Residual Waste EA Study and the recommended preferred site through a mixed format event, including a drop-in session and a formal presentation. When: Tuesday, October 23rd Drop-in information Session: 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Formal presentation followed by Question-and-Answer period: 7 p.m. Where: Roman Palace Banquet Hall BACKGROUND: York Region has partnered with Durham Region on the Durham/York Residual Waste Environmental Assessment Study to find a way to manage the garbage remaining after diversion efforts, such as re-using, recycling and composting. York Regional Council is dedicated to increasing waste diversion and last fall committed to diverting 65 per cent of waste from landfill by 2010. The consulting team will present a final report containing the results of the public consultations to the Joint Waste Management Group on Tuesday, November 27th.
