Holiday service adjustments will be in effect over the next two weeks

NEWMARKET � The Regional Municipality of York advises residents to check York Region Transit (YRT)/Viva schedules before heading out over the holidays. Between Monday, December 22^nd and Friday, January 2, 2009, a variety of service adjustments will affect YRT/Viva routes.

Temporary holiday service adjustments include:

All High School Specials will be discontinued from December 22^nd to January 2^nd with regular service resuming Monday, January 5^th

GO Shuttles will operate on early schedules December 24^th and December 31^st

GO Shuttles and express services will be cancelled on December 25^th and 26^th

All YRT/Viva routes will operate reduced service on December 25^th, December 26^th and January 1^st

For the eighth consecutive year, FREE rides after 7 p.m and extended service until approximately 3 a.m. on select routes will be available on New Year�s Eve, December 31^st

YRT/Viva offers local and rapid transit services throughout all nine municipalities in York Region. More than 120 routes keep residents connected within York Region, as well as with connecting services in the City of Toronto and the Region of Peel. More than 18.2 million riders used YRT/Viva services in 2007, with nearly 73,000 trips made on average each weekday.
