Major projects in The Regional Municipality of York $1.04 billion 2009 Capital PlanThe 2009 Business Plan and Budget includes gross capital expenditures totalling $1.04 billion. Elements of the Capital Plan include:• $398.2 million for Rapid Transit (of which $179.9 million is fully funded by senior levels of government)
• Construction of the TTC Spadina subway and Yonge Street subway extension • A dedicated bus rapid transit lane for Davis Drive in the Town of Newmarket to support Southlake Regional Health Centre's new Cancer treatment facility • $63 million for York Region Transit (YRT)
• The purchase of 49 new YRT conventional buses (including 18 replacement buses) • The purchase of six YRT Mobility Plus specialized buses (including four replacement buses) • Installation of a Disaster Recovery Plan for YRT's Information Technology (IT) infrastructure • Construction of a transit vehicle garage and bus maintenance facility in the City of Vaughan • New bus training simulator facility in the City of Vaughan • $270.8 million for Wastewater projects
• Expansion of the Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant (Phase 3) • Construction in progress for : o York Durham Sewer System (YDSS) Southeast Collector • Construction of the YDSS Queensville/Holland Landing sewage treatment plant • Expansion of the Keswick Water Pollution Control Plant • $109.8 million for Water projects
• Development of water supply projects with Peel Region to meet York Region's future needs • Construction of a second elavated tank in the Town of Richmond Hill • Upgrades to the York Region water system for the Township of King, Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville and the City of Vaughan • Georgina Water Supply (GWS) project expansion for supplying water to the Town of Georgina and the Communities of Mount Albert, Nobleton and Schomberg • Launch of updated Water for Tomorrow program in York Region • $110.9 million for Roads
• Several road widening projects, including: o Bathurst Street - Wellington Street to Mulock Drive o Stouffville Road from Warden Avenue to Highway 48 o York/Durham Line - Steeles Avenue to Highway 7 • Road resurfacing and maintenance work for more than 180 kilometres of lanes in York Region • Implementation of ITS Strategy and Pedestrian and Cycling Program • $47.1 million for York Regional Police
• A York Regional Police Investigative and Support Services Facility in the Town of Aurora • Acquisition of 12 new York Regional Police vehicles,103 replacements and one specialized Tactical Support Vehicle • $13.8 million for Information Technology (IT)
• Development of a new Data Centre Disaster Recovery facility • Implementation of four new technology initiatives for York Region's IT infrastructure • Purchase and upgrade of IT and telecommunication equipments • $10.3 million for Housing Services
• Construction of an 85-unit seniors' housing project as part of the new Vaughan Civic Centre campus • Repair and redevelopment of social housing sites owned by Housing York Inc. • $9 million for Property Services
• Implementation of new accommodation projects to manage York Region's growth needs • Continuation of Energy Conservation projects for York Region buildings • $4.2 million for Solid Waste Management projects
• Construction of a new Source Separated Organics Facility (location to be decided) • Establishing two new Community Environmental Centres (CEC) for waste management • York-Durham Residual Waste Management Environmental Assessment • $2.9 million for Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
• Purchase of 13 replacement EMS ambulances and four Paramedic Response Vehicles (PRU) • Construction of three EMS stations; two in the Town of Georgina and one in the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville • $1.4 million for Court Services
• Addition of a new courtroom at the Tannery Mall in the Town of Newmarket • Renovation of court space in Richmond Hill to improve customer service • Preliminary design work for a consolidated court facility in the Town of Newmarket • $600,000 for Long Term Care Services
• Newmarket Health Centre and Maple Health Centre projects for: o Operational and Direct Care equipment replacements o Recreational activity area expansion for clients in wheelchairs with caregivers - 30 -
