Major Mackenzie Drive reduced to one eastbound lane from Jane Street to Melville Avenue in City of Vaughan

Significant watermain break to keep lane closed into next week

NEWMARKET – The eastbound curb lane (right lane) of Major Mackenzie Drive from Jane Street to Melville Avenue in the City of Vaughan will remain closed for several days following a significant watermain break near the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Melville Avenue.

City of Vaughan staff have contained the breakage of the 18-inch watermain and are currently assessing the extent of the damage.  Clean-up of the affected area has commenced, however due to the extent of the damage it may take several days.

While traffic is still flowing through the affected intersection, including vehicles turning south on Melville Avenue from Major Mackenzie Drive, motorists are warned to expect delays.

It is highly recommended that motorists avoid the area if at all possible, and use one of the following alternative routes:

  • Teston Road from Jane Street to
    Keele Street
  • Rutherford road from Jane Street to
    Keele Street

York Region Roads Transportation staff will be placing signs in the area to advise motorists of the lane closure and provide updates when available.

Media updates will be provided as the work continues.
