York Region celebrates National Public Works Week with free Family Fun Day, May 24thNumerous events highlight the contributions of public works professionalsNEWMARKET The Regional Municipality of York will recognize the valuable contributions that public works professionals make to their communities during National Public Works Week (NPWW) from May 18th to 24th. There will be a number of activities including a free Family Fun Day Open House on Saturday, May 24th.
Family Fun Day Open House Saturday, May 24th 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Family Fun Day Open House will feature a number of fun-filled events, including:
A charity barbecue
Classic York Regional Police cars Snow plows, garbage trucks, an ambulance, buses and other work vehicles Free rides on Viva buses (including through the bus wash) Tours of the sign shop, maintenance garage and waste management centre EMS displays and CPR demonstrations Mascots Pylon Pete, Parry the Paramedic and Toby the Littlest YRT bus Crafts for kids and free giveaways The Family Fun Day Open House will take place at these locations:
The Bales Drive Operations Centre at 90 Bales Drive East
The York Region Waste Management Centre at 100 Garfield Wright Boulevard York Regions Transportation Services and Environmental Services staff will also host:
A series of career presentations to local schools to showcase the types of skills our public works professionals perform at York Region, including engineering, project management and skilled trades.
School tours of our Georgina Water Treatment Plant, Sutton Water Pollution Control Plant and Bales Drive Operations Centre.
The 2nd Annual Paint-a-Plow contest, where six participating schools paint a plow scoop from a York Region snow removal truck. The designs will be displayed at the NPWW Family Fun Day Open House, and you can vote for the winner. All the designs will be featured on York Regional plows this winter and the winner will receive the Pylon Pete NPWW trophy.
A donation of food and other items to the York Region Street Outreach program.
